In 1859, Charles Darwin expressed a concern over the deficiency of transitional fossils in his book, “On the Origin of Species by Means of Natural Selection, or the Preservation of Favored Races in the Struggle for Life”.  He hoped that ensuing discoveries of something half-scale, half-feather would vindicate his claims. It seems other wannabe scientists raced to dig up proof and gain quick fame. Their work only propped up fantastical hoaxes which stood for decades as convincing ‘proof’ against the Christians’ cause for truth.

Neanderthal Man. Three years prior to Darwin’s seminal book, Prof. Protsch discovered a skull, two femurs and other bones in a cave of the Neander Valley of Germany. They were originally considered human, not anything extraordinary; but after Darwin’s book came out, geologist William King declared them ape-like, then conveniently dated them 36,000 years old to fit evolution’s timescale. The problem is that they are fully human, showing no transitional forms. [1]

Java Man. Physician Eugene Dubois, seeking to validate evolution, located a group of fossils in the Dutch East Indies.  In 1891 he found one thigh bone; a year later a smallish (ape-like) skull cap; and finally, 3 teeth. Found 45 feet apart, it’s highly unlikely to belong to the same creature. Even though Dr. Virchow showed they were orangutan bones, Dubois depicted a half-ape, half-human ancestor. Dubois confessed in 1932 that “Pithecanthropus was not a man, but a gigantic genus allied to the gibbons.”  Yet even today Java man is listed as Homo erectus (i.e., human) in some textbooks! [2]

Piltdown Man. In 1912 Charles Dawson found parts of an antique skull. It had human features but an ape-like jaw, a perfectly plausible transitional species!  41 years later, Piltdown Man was exposed as a human skull fitted with orangutan teeth, filed down, chemically stained and painted to look ancient.  Why dig in the dirt when you can fabricate your own transitional fossil? [3]

Nebraska Man. This one is a doozey.  All that was found in 1917 was a single tooth, and five years later the academic community marveled at the “scientific reconstruc-tion” of a missing link. In 1925, further excavations found the rest of skeleton:  it was of a pig, claimed to be extinct, yet no diagrams were changed. In 1972, that same species of pig was found alive in Paraguay, so it’s not even ancient. [4]

Guess what one thing these all have in common?  They were submitted as evidence in the most important trial of the 20th century, the 1925 Scopes Trial in Dayton, TN.  Although evolutionary science teacher John Scopes lost the trial, the news gave evolution a media victory with favorable reports nationwide.  Hollywood’s release of “Inherit The Wind” further popularized evolutionists’ spin on the trial.

Do you see the pattern here? Fabricate a lie, preach it loud and long, and don’t blush when the truth catches up. As Christians, we stand on truth, for we have not followed cunningly devised fables, when we made known unto you the power and coming of our Lord Jesus Christ, but were eyewitnesses of His majesty. Truth will rise victorious.
